Learning Program Case Study
Our case study centers on an Education sector company whose name will remain confidential for privacy reasons. This company identified a training need in Data Analysis for Educational Improvement and made a strategic decision to develop an online course specifically tailored for its Instructional Coordinator employees. The course aimed to equip these employees with the knowledge and skills to understand and apply data analysis techniques for facilitating educational improvement. Notably, the company required the training program to have the capacity to monitor key milestones achieved by participants, such as the completion of quizzes on the basic principles of data analysis, finishing a module based on methods and techniques used in data analysis for education, and the submission of a project that outlines a comprehensive data analysis strategy for school improvement.
Standard Learning Management Systems (LMS) typically focus on tracking more generic learning events, such as enrollment, progress, scores, and course completion. However, they often fall short when it comes to tracking custom events, such as quiz participation, module completion, and project submissions on specific topics like data analysis for educational improvement. This discrepancy lies in the fixed, inflexible structures of most LMS systems, which are ill-equipped to record and analyze such specialized, contextual actions. Furthermore, these systems often lack the ability to intuitively represent these complex processes, making it hard to map the intricacies of customized learning paths. Thus, tracking the occurrences of these highly customized events poses a real challenge with standard LMS platforms.
The company was able to circumvent the limitations of standard Learning Management Systems by integrating a versatile tool called User Flow Analytics. This tool provides extensive insights into each learner’s journey throughout the course. It tracks not only traditional parameters such as content engagement and course progression, but goes a step further to record more intricate data like time spent on each slide, button clicks, exit points, and even geolocation and device usage.
Moreover, User Flow Analytics doesn’t depend on an LMS to function, offering the possibility to gather comprehensive course analysis, regardless of whether an LMS is used. After gaining a rich understanding of how learners engage with the course, the company was then able to adapt their content to better fit their Instructional Coordinators’ needs, ultimately enhancing the overall educational effectiveness of their Data Analysis for Educational Improvement training.
Case Study Outcome
The outcome of this case study was undeniably successful. By incorporating User Flow Analytics into their e-learning platform, the Education sector company was able to delve deeper into how their Instructional Coordinators interacted with the Data Analysis for Educational Improvement course. They got detailed findings, for instance, how long employees stayed on a slide or which materials they most interacted with. Not being dependent on an LMS facilitated the utilization of the analytics tool, making it an easy and flexible solution. These insights were then used to improve the course content and structure, leading to a more effective and engaging training program that better met the learning needs of their employees.
